Best of Bookstagram: THE KINGDOM OF BACK

You’ve probably noticed one of the most gorgeous covers of 2020 rolling around bookstagram, and we couldn’t help but round some of our favorites up to share!

Marie Lu’s The Kingdom of Back follows the untold story of Nannerl Mozart.
Born with a gift for music, Nannerl Mozart has just one wish–to be remembered forever. But even as she delights audiences with her masterful playing, she has little hope she’ll ever become the acclaimed composer she longs to be. She is a young woman in 18th century Europe, and that means composing is forbidden to her. She will perform only until she reaches a marriageable age–her tyrannical father has made that much clear.

And as Nannerl’s hope grows dimmer with each passing year, the talents of her beloved younger brother, Wolfgang, only seem to shine brighter. His brilliance begins to eclipse her own, until one day a mysterious stranger from a magical land appears with an irresistible offer. He has the power to make her wish come true–but his help may cost her everything.

#PenguinTeenPartner Have you heard about THE KINGDOM OF BACK? • I’m mildly obsessed with the accounts of Mozart’s sister, Anna Maria, nicknamed Nannerl. By all accounts she was equally, if not more, musically talented as her famous brother. But due to her gender and the expectations of the age, and her complete capitulation to her father’s wishes, she gave it all up once she reached marriageable age. • So when I heard @marieluthewriter was creating a YA Historical tale with a Fantasy twist featuring Nannerl, I was totally on board! • #TheKingdomOfBack is now available for pre-order (out 3/3) AND you can submit your receipt for the pre-order prize, a custom book pouch with art by Marie Lu herself! (US Only, link in bio) • • SYNOPSIS: Two siblings. Two brilliant talents. But only one Mozart. Born with a gift for music, Nannerl Mozart has just one wish–to be remembered forever. [#PenguinTeenPartner @penguinteen ] Confession: I don’t tend to read a lot of YA (really it’s a matter of time and towering TBRs), but when a premise draws me in, sometimes it is exactly what I need to hit the spot, and shoots straight to the top of my TBR… #TheKingdomOfBack by @marieluthewriter is a fictional exploration of the relationship between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his sister Nannerl. The question is, as a young female composer in the 18th century, how can Nannerl ever hope to catch up to not only her brother’s talents, but his visibility and recognition? That is…until she’s faced with what sounds like a Faustian proposition of magic… ✨ Having spent 6 years in conservatory, training as an opera singer myself, sung in Salzburg (where I walked by Mozart’s childhood home daily), Baden bei Wien (where I poppped into Vienna to visit the church at which he got married followed by his nuptial apartment where he composed Le Nozze Di Figaro)- not to mention counting his women as some of my favorite roles I’ve ever sung and acted- I would say this story of the Mozart family was a natural draw for me! ‍♀️ Especially in a mood where I’m looking for compulsively readable, richly complex, but faster reads, this one sounds just perfect…. It publishes from @putnambooks / @penguinteen March 3, but you can pre-order it now! . ✨ Yesterday I asked what reads you just have to get to that you might have missed last year. Anything coming up that you feel you’ll absolutely devour? ‍♀️✨ Happy Tuesday, bookchickies. Go get your day! . . . . . #bookstagram #yabooks #yareads #yareading #musician #books #mozart #magic #mustread #tbr #upnext #readersofinstagram #bookaddict #booklover #readinggirl #bookworm #booksofig #igbooks #instabooks #vscobooks #girlswhoread #bookaesthetic #bookdragon #yalit #ireadya #booklove
