Book Recs for the Fierce Ladies of SEAFIRE!

Seafire author Natalie C. Parker knows her crew of pirates better than anyone, so we had her match up these fierce and fiery ladies with the perfect reading material for those long nights at sea. Tell us on Twitter @penguinteen which pairing fits you best!

Reading is something of a challenge for the girls of the Mors Navis. Books are hard to come by; books with all their pages included are nearly impossible to find. And while Pisces spends time ensuring they all know their letters, reading is an activity that is combined with storytelling and many of the girls enjoy making up new beginnings and endings of the few books in their collection. That said, finding complete novels would be a treasure indeed and here are a few recent and upcoming titles the crew of the Mors Navis would love to get their hands on:

Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram

Untitled-8

Pisces would adore this book. Having been separated from her family very early on, the tale of a boy having a brief yet significant chance to connect with his own would speak directly to her heart.

I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall

This is the one for Redtooth. Girl versus wilderness + girl versus bad guys. She wouldn’t breathe until the final page (and then she would cry, maybe shout, but also breathe).

The Afterward by E.K. Johnston

Untitled-8

Lady knights? Yeah, this one is for Caledonia. It won’t be out until 2019, but Caledonia will be first in line.

Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi

Amina and Hime would read this one together and they would discuss it for hours on end. The themes of providing for family and bearing physical and mental manifestations of magic and guilt would resonate differently for them, but the romance would hook them in exactly the same way.
