How to Throw the Perfect Bookish Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is all about food, family, and feeling grateful for all that you’ve got. The only thing that could make it better? Books, of course! Add these finishing touches to your Thanksgiving plans.

These library checkout cards make creatively bookish Place Cards – and as a bonus, people can take them home to use as bookmarks!

This holiday is the time to celebrate everything we’re thankful for. Craft your own Thankful or Gratitude banner and have people write what they are giving thanks for this year. Include a few examples from BookRiot’s roundup of literary Thanksgiving quotes, in case your guests need inspiration!

Plan a book swap!

Have your guests bring a book they’re thankful for to swap with each other – that way, even if there aren’t enough leftovers, people will have something to take home!

Set the mood

Check out Penguin Teen’s Spotify, or other find a book-inspired playlist that best fits the mood you’re going for. And—if someone comments on the music, you can tell them about your latest favorite!

Dress Code

Thanksgiving is a great excuse to dress up – so why not tell your guests to come dressed as a character they’re thankful for? Make it a fun pre-meal game to guess who your friends are cosplaying!

Don’t forget the napkins!

Yes, Millennials are apparently killing the napkin industry, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get behind an adorable set of cloth ones – especially they have a literary twist! Look for – or craft your own – napkins with a quote from your favorite author!

And of course, the recipes!

Whether you’re having a Charlie Brown-Thanksgiving-inspired menu of popcorn and toast, or going all-out in the kitchen, look to your favorite books for inspiration! Mix up the usual Thanksgiving staples by finding – or making your own recipes! – to recreate Butterbeer or Peeta’s cheese buns.

Who to invite to Thanksgiving? Replace your family members with these book characters, of course!
