The Desolations of Devil’s Acre is hitting shelves NEXT WEEK! So, we’ve been celebrating the series as we countdown to the finale, and this week we’re talking about The Conference of the Birds.

This is Book 5 in the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children series, and it picks up immediately where A Map of Days (Book 4) left off.

So, here are 5 reasons why it’s time to catch up on The Conference of the Birds asap! Please note that spoilers for A Map of Days follow, so if you haven’t read it yet, bookmark this article and come back once you have!

1. The stakes are high. Peculiarly high.

In A Map of Days, Jacob Portman and his friends discovered that America’s society of peculiars is not at all welcoming to outsiders. In fact, relations between the three American peculiar clans are so tense that they’re on the verge of civil war. As we find in The Conference of the Birds, Miss Peregrine and the other ymbrynes have brought the American clans together for peace talks, but a single misstep will ignite a peculiar war in America.

**2. Noor Pradesh, the light-eating peculiar from A Map of Days, is an awesome new character.**

Noor’s peculiar power is so cool! It works in a similar fashion as Professor Dumbledore’s Deluminator, essentially—but who wouldn’t want to have the power to turn off the lights?

Noor is also at the center of a prophecy that will decide the fate of all peculiars in both America and Devil’s Acre so, you know. No pressure, Noor!

3. Some familiar villains return…

…because the wights are back! That’s all we can say without getting into spoiler-y territory, but it’s up to Horace and the rest of the peculiar crew to find out what the wights are really after.

4. Jacob might have more romance on the horizon.

You might remember that Jacob and Emma broke up in A Map of Days, but that definitely doesn’t mean that Jacob doesn’t have more romantic prospects on the horizon!
