Everything You Need To Know About ALL THE MAJOR CONSTELLATIONS Author Pratima Cranse

You know that feeling you get when you read a book that perfectly captures the two sides of growing up: the uncontainable excitement and the inevitable angst? It’s like someone dove right into your soul, and All the Major Constellations is that book. It’s the provocative, compelling story of Andrew, who starts hanging out with his crush and her fundamentalist youth group…except he’s not sure if he’s just trying to get close to her, and if she’s just trying to convert him. Here to tell us about the mind behind the masterpiece is author Pratima Cranse!

Name: Pratima Cranse
Novel: All the Major Constellations
Available: November 10, 2015
Who’s your favorite author, living or dead? Iris Murdoch
What’s your favorite thing about your book? The main character, Andrew.
If you could spend one year on a deserted island with one character from literature, who would you choose? Jake Donaghue from Under the Net by Iris Murdoch. Antonia Shimerda from My Antonia by Willa Cather is a close second. Actually, screw all that, the real answer is Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. Having no skills of my own I’d need someone to protect and feed me.

Where do you write? In bed. Sometimes in a coffee shop.

Who is your favorite hero or heroine of history? Ghandi.

Do you tweet? What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever tweeted? I do tweet, and I’m terrible at it. The funniest thing I’ve ever tweeted was: “In a moment of frustration I cut my bangs off and now I have a mullet. #nopictureofthisever”

What is your favorite season? Autumn

If you could teleport anywhere in the known universe right now, where would you go? A posh suite in a luxury resort on a beautiful island. #feelingshallow

Do you have any writing rituals? Coffee. Background noise is important. There are internet sites that mimic the noise of a coffee shop. I find that’s when I write best: in my home, in bed, with coffee, to the engineered sounds of a moderately busy café.

What is your idea of earthly happiness? Slopping around the house in a muumuu, watching Frozen with my daughter for the hundredth time, building forts, eating pancakes (my husband makes the BEST pancakes). Basically a snow day for the three of us.

What is the best concert you’ve ever been to? Sufjan Stevens. Half the crowd was drunk, angry, and weirdly ornery and rowdy…not really a Sufjan Stevens kind of scene. At one point two dudes started yelling at each other and Sufjan held up his hands and just said, “Please, please.” It was such a graceful gesture, a small and lovely moment. Also it was a good show.

What are you currently working on? A novel about a young woman and her unlikely obsessions.

Thanks, Pratima! We can’t wait to read what’s coming next from you!
