A Comprehensive Guide to The Young Elites World
The Young Elites
A name given to specific malfettos (marked people) that emerged with supernatural abilities from a blood fever that plagued Kenettra. They are feared by most and hunted by the Inquisition Axis.
The Rose Society
The Rose Society is a group of Young Elites formed by Adelina Amouteru, after she was expelled from the Dagger Society. Adelina is their tacitly proclaimed leader.
Adelina Amouteru/ “White Wolf”
A 16 year-old Young Elite who has the ability to manipulate illusions — She can create an illusion of nothingness, which acts as a cloak of invisibility; she can induce immense pain into someone’s sense of touch, which can even result in death; she can weave new features into someone’s face, most often over herself to hide her scars. Adelina has a complicated relationship with her father (well, she did murder him, after all) and is somewhat resentful of her younger sister, Violetta. She struggles with her inner darkness and is distrustful of people and their motives.
Violetta Amouteru/ “The Puppet Master”
Adelina’s 14-year-old sister. At first, it appears that she survived the blood fever unscathed, unmarked, and without the powers of a Young Elite. Because of her perfect, unmarred beauty she is her father’s favorite daughter. She is loyal to Adelina and tries to protect her from their father’s wrath when she can. However, Violetta gained the power of blocking other Young Elites’ powers and she kept this a secret from everyone, including Adelina.
Magiano is a notorious malfetto thief and an Elite, well known for his tricks and schemes. He is able to mimic the powers of others and use them for his gain. When Adelina first encounters Magiano again, she finds his voice familiar, realizing that he was her “cell mate” when she was locked up in the dungeons for the murder of her father.
Sergio / “The Rainmaker”
Sergio is an elite with the ability to manipulate the weather specifically rain. However, he is only able to start a storm and is unable to control or stop it once it starts falling. When Sergio was with the Dagger Society, they gave him the name of Rainmaker. Sergio is cast aside by the Daggers, but uses this name again when he joined the Rose Society.
The Dagger Society
The Dagger Society is a group of Young Elites, founded by Enzo Valenciano, who seek other survivors of the blood fever before the Inquisition Axis can.
Enzo Valenciano/ “The Reaper”
One of the most notorious Young Elites, Enzo is the founder and leader of The Dagger Society. He has the power to create fire just from his hands by pulling on strings of heat from heat sources like the sun. He is the former crown prince of Kenettra, disposed by his elder sister who assumed the throne along with her husband, a powerful duke. After she became queen, his sister banished him from the palace. The monarchs encourage the hunt of malfettos and portray them as demons and bringers of ill fortune to keep Enzo unfit for the throne.
Raffaele Laurent Bessette/ “The Messenger”
A consort at the Fortunata Court, Raffaele is Enzo’s right hand. Known as the Messenger because of his ability to sense energy threads from other Elites and people, he helps the Dagger Society find and recruit malfettos with powers and build political alliances.
Dante/ “The Spider”
A member of the Dagger Society, Dante has the power to see in complete darkness. He and Adelina have a strained and hostile relationship.
A member of the Dagger Society, Lucent has the powers of the wind. Like the wind, she can whistle, scream, howl, and uproot things and people from the earth. She was exiled from the Skyland Nation of Beldain under mysterious circumstances.
Lady Gemma Salvatore/ “Star Thief”
A member of the Dagger Society, Gemma’s alias comes from a Kenettran folk story about a hero that could steal anything. She can steal the minds of beasts, and make them do her bidding.
Michel/ “The Architect”
A member of the Dagger Society, Michel has the ability to unwind anything he touches, and reform it in a different spot. He assisted Adelina with perfecting her illusions, making them more lifelike and realistic.
Also known as the king’s peacekeepers, they are essentially the police force of Kenettra. Led by Teren Santoro, they hunt down and kill Young Elites.
Master Teren Santoro
Teren is the Leader of the Inquisition and the queen’s right hand. He is considered too young for the position he holds, but the aristocracy respects him nonetheless. He has made it his mission to rid the world of malfettos, particularly the Young Elites. Although he believes the Young Elites are dangerous, Teren may have the darkest secret of all — any wound on his body heals instantly. His only known mark left by the blood fever is his eyes becoming a very pale blue.
Queen Giulietta I
Enzo’s sister. The current queen of Kenettra. She stripped Enzo of his crown after he came out of the blood fever marked, and banished him permanently from the palace. She has a “mysterious” (read: sexy) relationship with Teren.
Maeve Jacqueline Kelly Corrigan
The crown princess of the Skyland nation of Beldain, Maeve has the power to bring the dead back to life.
One of Maeve’s 7 brothers, Tristan was the first person Maeve resurrected. Although he is alive, he is now a shadow of his former self and only obeys his sister.
Sir Martino Amouteru
The father of Adelina and Violetta. A callous, calculating man who thinks of his daughters as investments. He was once a successful merchant, but after the blood fever struck his trade relations suffered, resulting in the stagnation of his business.
A non-malfetto Tamouran girl who was in love with Enzo, Daphne was an apprentice at an apothecary. For helping malfettos, she was killed by the Inquistion prior to the beginning of the novel.
And where did we leave off at the end of The Rose Society?
Well, Adelina and the Roses successfully stormed the castle (and beat out the Inquisition and the Daggers, to boot!) to crown the White Wolf queen of Kenettra! But does she have any allies left by her side? Can a queen rule an empire seized only on illusion?
